Montessori Curriculum

Dr Maria Montessori believed that the most crucial years of a child’s development occur before the child is 6 years of age. She recognized that the child was like a sponge and could absorb the world around him. Therefore, the Montessori curriculum is rich with activities and hands-on materials so that each child can fully explore his or her imagination.

In the Montessori classroom, the teachers prepare lessons in these areas: practical life, sensorial, language, and mathematics. Children also study topics including geography, science, music, and the arts.

The curriculum is carefully prepared to grow with the child. As a child grasps concepts, he or she can move forward onto more difficult subjects. Thus, the child does not have to wait for others in his or her class to "catch up". Children have the ability to work and learn at their own pace, instilling a greater sense of independence.
